Nintendo is the oldest developer we’re looking at and thus knows how to keep us in suspense and how to get the hype going. They recently held several media summits around the globe to discuss what we can expect to see in this half of 2010 and what we were told will bring a smile to any Nintendo Fan. Whilst we didn’t get hear anything really new and impressive, like a new console. We did get told of some Wii Ware titles but the major news is in the form of both the new Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M getting release dates.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 also got a new trailer and game play video and we saw some very interesting things. First of all we now know that this game does feature a lot of call backs to other games in the Mario series having locations from Mario Sunshine and Yoshi Island recreated in planet form. We also know that Levels have a mid-point as a flag and star at the end again similar to previous titles. Despite early worries this would just be the same game as before but with a couple of extra feature I feel we can definitely now say that this will be a new Mario experience. It is confirmed for release in the UK on June 11 and May 23rd for the USA
Metroid Other M also got a fair bit of attention and although no new trailer was given we did get some
info. First of all the game will be released on June 27th for the USA but sadly the UK only got told it would be in Q3 of the year but possibly the most interesting is the fact the game uses a 3D perspective, 2D perspective and First Person, with the ability to swap between them at any time you wish. The game is supposed to be a very emotional story and should give a lot more character to Samus Aran.
Whilst some people may find the lack of Zelda Wii news disappointing it is likely because we are due a huge announcement in this years E3 and that we’ll get it this Christmas. Finally remember that the new Nintendo DSi XL is out next week and expect to see a review shortly.
